In addition to the standard features of a typical road map, this Esso travel map of southern Italy provides a colorful inset, which uses pictorial symbols to show the various tourist attractions throughout all of Italy. Esso, as did other gas companies, often published elaborate maps in advance of special events -- this map may have been issued in preparation for the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.
